Custom plugin or an existing one?
If a well-maintained plugin already does most of what you need, extending it is usually the better choice. A custom plugin earns its place when the existing options are heavy, abandoned, conflict with each other, or force a workflow your business does not follow.
Keep features out of the theme
Business logic — custom post types, integrations, data — belongs in a plugin, and the theme only handles presentation. That way you can redesign the site later without losing functionality or data.
Built to survive updates
- WordPress APIs only: hooks, REST and the block editor, with no edits to core or other plugins.
- Security checks: nonces, capability checks, sanitised input and escaped output on every screen.
- Performance: scripts and styles load only where they are used, and heavy queries are indexed and cached.
- Compatibility: tested against current WordPress and PHP versions before delivery.
